Google Acquires Motorola Mobility To Protect Android

Google's CEO Larry Page in an official blog post just made an announcement that it plans to buy Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. The whole acquisition process is expected to finish by early 2012.



Well, what does this acquisition mean? Is this to protect the whole Android ecosystem? Google just acquired 17,000 patents specifically related to mobile. And we can expect the whole patent lawsuit issues to end in the near future. For those companies that have doubts about supporting Android, Larry Page says -


This acquisition will not change our commitment to run Android as an open platform. Motorola will remain a licensee of Android and Android will remain open. We will run Motorola as a separate business. Many hardware partners have contributed to Android's success and we look forward to continuing to work with all of them to deliver outstanding user experiences.

Windows Phone 7.5 Tango Officially Renamed As ‘Refresh’

The next version of Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system after Mango 7.1 is officially renamed as ‘Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh’ – according to the head of Windows Phone division for Microsoft Italy.     According to Italian version of the post , 7.5 Refresh update will mostly be an update to the minimum specs of the devices it’ll be able to run (minimum RAM requirements is dropped from 512 MB to 256 MB).
